Capacity Building in EIA

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a powerful tool for informed decision-making. It contributes to more environmentally sensitive decisions and the integration of environmental and social considerations in development planning. It is a process that brings about enhanced coordination between the private sector, government ministries such as MoEF&CC, and the public. It contributes to the transparency of the decision-making process during the development, implementation, monitoring and follow up stages of a development project. EIA, if properly designed and coordinated, can be an effective tool for achieving sustainability.

In India, the EIA process is based upon commonly accepted definitions, concepts, principles and elements of approach. It is important that all those involved in the EIA process understand these foundations and how they promote integrated environment and development decision-making in support of sustainable development

The EIA Notification of 2006 and various amendments, office circulars, NABET-QCI requirements etc has made it imperative for regulators, consultants, practitioners, NGOs to keep themselves abreast of latest happenings in the filed
