Objectives/ Aim of the Project
Synthesis, characterization and evaluation of nano based metal oxides , sensing materials for development of a robust, compatible with Indian conditions and cost effective:
sensory array system
sensor system for wide application of detection odourants from gaseous emissions
Developing a substitute for the imported electronic nose for:
environmental monitoring of the VOCs/odorants
saving the import bills
Establishing correlation:
between sensory and analytical measurements generated from various MSW landfill sites.
Generating the revenue for the country:
through sell of the developed electronic nose under "Make in India Programme".
Importance of the proposed project in the context of current status
No indigenous E-Nose available in the country for environmental applications.
Most of the developed national and international E-Noses are limited to monitoring Aroma in food. Only one developed nationally E-Nose has been tested for environmental applications viz. Pulp and paper industry (1 to 5 PPM of TRS).
MRC, IISc Bangalore will improve the sensitivity of sensing devices which may be exploited for monitoring of odourants in ambient air.
In-house manufacturing of E-Nose may save the import bills and also may fetch the foreign exchange through export to the other countries.
International/ National status of development of e-nose
